Urban Surveillance- Maximizing Your ROI.

When clients request surveillance in urban areas, we usually face the same challenges. The top three are usually:

  • Identifying the claimant and confirming their address – At times pictures of the claimant are not available or an unconfirmed address.
  • Parking- Most urban surveillance starts in the early morning and obtaining an ideal parking space for surveillance can be unpredictable.
  •  Remaining Covert- Investigators must stay close to the claimant’s residence capture useful footage but remain at a distance not to be detected.

We acknowledge performing manned surveillance in an urban environment is one of the more difficult investigations. Our experience has proven implementing certain practices can have a dramatic impact on increasing your surveillance success rate.

  • Make Use of Unmanned Surveillance When Possible- Static Cameras and Drop Cars can verify a claimant’s residence and document a claimant’s schedule for a fraction of the cost of manned surveillance. It can also reduce wasted hours, if not days of wasted maned surveillance.
  • Don’t Rely Social Media Reports Alone Canned social media reports can be a valuable resource to start your investigation, but they might not capture all the data that you need. Make sure that your SIU investigators are performing DMV, criminal and municipal searches on all claimants. Additional searches can provide crucial information that can eliminate wasted surveillance hours or provide information that is contradictory to the claimant’s testimony Recent examples in our office are finding new claimant addresses on parking tickets and discovering assault charges against a claimant after the date of the accident.
  • Utilize Surveillance Vans- A covert surveillance van outfitted with the latest camera’s technology is invaluable in an urban environment. Surveillance vans can remain covert for extended periods of time and periodically move to avoid any suspicion. Most surveillance vans are equipped with small covert periscope cameras that ensures steady quality footage at any angle, from up to 400 feet away.

Every case is unique, what proves to be successful in one case might not be successful another case. We believe if you have to perform urban Surveillance, maximizing your ROI is essential. Having the ability to make small changes in the way claims investigations are conducted can have larger impact on your bottom line.
